The Hummingbird House Gift & Craft Shoppe

Located on picturesque Little Tub Harbour in Tobermory, Ontario, Canada. The Hummingbird House Gift & Craft Shoppe has developed a reputation for consistently creating a unique shopping experience. The theme of “cottage life and outdoor leisure living” opens the door to a wide range of giftware, home and garden décor, pampering and aromatherapy products, stationery, lounge wear, adorable plush and sweet baby gifts. Fine Canadian-made handcrafted articles including jewellery and greeting cards. And, of course many items have a hummingbird theme!

The building structure itself has historic value dating back to 1904 when it was built as a general store with boarding rooms upstairs for millworkers in this former lumbering and fishing community. The section now housing our store was where staples such as 100 pound bags of flour and sugar, barrels of molasses, coal oil and many other items needed by people in a small, then isolated, northern community were stored. In 1948 “the storeroom” became the Post Office and over the years has been the location for many businesses including a fried chicken take-out, home-made fudge shop and reputable jewellery store.

The exterior will catch your eye with our massive hanging flower baskets and trailing window boxes that attract both hummingbirds and butterflies. Tourists are frequently seen photographing the flower displays. We were thrilled one day when a wedding party asked if they could use our front setting for a photo shoot!

We have given the store’s interior and exterior a major face-lift by creating a bright, cottage-themed, whimsical yet classy interior. Each season the store’s appearance changes as our merchandiser switches display units around, using new techniques to create “story displays”. We find that browsing shoppers are compelled to walk around at least twice to take everything in.

Soft jazzy music and gentle fragrances sooth one’s soul while simultaneously fun and whimsical products catch your eye and illicit a smile. Free custom gift packaging is readily available with our recognizable trademark logo-printed bags stuffed with green and yellow tissue paper and topped with curled ribbons. We often hear “that’s why I love shopping here… it’s all ready for me to give as a gift”.

We strive to create a memorable shopping experience that stimulates all your senses. Our efforts have been recognized as we are a proud past nominee for a Canadian Gift and Tableware national award for excellence in the industry and have been featured in “Our Homes Grey & Bruce Counties” magazine.
